Hi.
There is a new software out called the klango player.
You can visit www.klango.net or you can download it directly at http://setup.glango.net

The software is self voicing and with it you can listen to radio stations and podcasts, play files on your computer, you can also create a klango acount and read private messages, read and write in the klango forums, write a blog and much more.
And you can do all that with in the software. You don't need to open any web brousers or anything. Also you can download some additional games and tools that will work with your klango player.
It is free by the way.
I only tried it for a few hours and i like it. For a free software it does a lot of things and it is worth trying.
Again you can visit www.klango.net.

the web site doesnt have much information about the klango player. There was no listing of features or FAQ that I could find.

Yes i know. They say the website is in development but after you install the program the read me file is good.
They should have a basic description of the software. Maybe in the news you can read about it i will have to check it out.

I downloaded klango player, I think it's really a nice program. Just don't like that microsoft sam but otherwise, it's a nice program.

Try either espeak from http://espeak.sf.net or you can download microsoft mike and mary from http://www.kitchensinc.griffithsgoodies.com/ttsgames/SpeechXP.exe
I hope it helps.

Trying the Klango network and client; finding a lot of familiar "faces". I don't like the default audio theme, but have found another, thanks to forum posts.

and you can change the voice to something other than sam, (thank God), from the setup menu.

Post 8 by kool_turk (This site is so "educational") on Friday, 04-Jul-2008 6:09:05

The only issue I have with Klango is the fact that you can't change your password. You can request it and it gets sent to your email, but it displays it in plain text. I prefer the zones password recovery system to klangos at the moment. Apart from that, it's an excellent program, especially since it's still in beta.

Post 9 by louisa (move over school!) on Friday, 04-Jul-2008 8:27:27

where do you change the voices? I'll certainly have a look at those links, thanks.

Does the player work under windows xp?

Post 11 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Saturday, 05-Jul-2008 15:57:23

Yes it does.

Post 12 by blake (Zone BBS Addict) on Saturday, 05-Jul-2008 15:59:59

To post 9, you change the voice Klango uses by going to the settings menu, then the speech synthesis submenu.
To post 10, Klango Player works on Windows XP.
For those who have not tried Klango yet, you may be interested to know that I wrote a review of the program on the
www.accesswatch.info
site.

Ok, i've heard from south park fan and jawswizard that this thing is good, now 12 more good hits, ok, guess I'll give it a shot. :D I'm sure i'll like it, as a lot of the programs I've heard on here, r excellent.

Post 14 by jeffreyshockley (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Sunday, 06-Jul-2008 2:46:01

Yeah, give it a shot, it's neat.
Speaking of the Klango Player, it just got updated today. Don't know what's new int the update, it didin't say.

Post 15 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Sunday, 06-Jul-2008 11:38:09

The new thing in the update has to do with mms streams and a language interface in German.
At the moment the developer posts to the forum saying what's new but i think soon they will do it in a more formal way either at the website, with in the klango software or both.
Also when we update there is a more info option but it doesn't work at the moment.

Post 16 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 06-Jul-2008 14:08:39

Ok, I've tried it, and to be honest, I'm not that impressed with it. Sure, its got the self voicing thing, and the little games, but other then that, its just a media player that will let u blog. R their other things that I just haven't found, because that's all I've found in it, and I can do all that stuff with winamp and facebook.

Post 17 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Sunday, 06-Jul-2008 18:16:41

One nice feature I've seen so far is the fact that you can record and pause radio stations. Plus, there are a lot of radio stations and podcasts to choose from. The problem is you can't connect to half of them, or at least the ones I tried to get into so far. And to post 5, those ESpeak voices are atricious, even worse than Mocrosoft Sam. They sound like they're stoned. Does anybody know of any clearer free voices I can download?

Post 18 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 06-Jul-2008 19:18:23

Ok, what the heck is wrong with sam? I see no problems with his voice, or espeak.

Post 19 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Sunday, 06-Jul-2008 19:46:28

Espeak sucks. It sounded like it was underwater, or stoned, or both. Sam sounds toothless, but it's tolerable. And sorry for my spelling in the last post, that's what happens if I don't look at it before I post.

hmm I might try itb

Post 21 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 06-Jul-2008 22:46:50

ok just got this. is there a way to speed up sam

Post 22 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 06-Jul-2008 23:16:14

Yeah in the speech menu, the last option is speed.

Post 23 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 06-Jul-2008 23:58:59

do not see it

Post 24 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Monday, 07-Jul-2008 10:18:17

It's the last option in the settings menu.

Post 25 by DevilishAnthony (Just go on and agree with me. You know you want to.) on Monday, 07-Jul-2008 11:59:25

If it works with Vista, Anna has a great voice. It's by far the best that microsoft has come out with.

Post 26 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Wednesday, 09-Jul-2008 16:47:18

Ok. Well, my husband just tried it today. It's not as impressive to me as it is to him; I agree with a previous poster who said it's just a combination of facebook and winamp. Lol. Anyway, it would be an awesome piece of software if it had somethings that you don't get on everyday software... Anyway, the thing I wanted to complain about is, what's up with the voices skipping. It sounds like a scratched CD when you are navigating and doing the different things on there, the sythesized voices sound very scratchy. Is it the speed that needs to be changed? Or does anyone else have this problem? Just wondering.

Post 27 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Wednesday, 09-Jul-2008 19:20:18

If you read the readme file that comes with it there are some suggestions of how to improove the voice if it studers. First of all you can try to run klango in dx mode. You can find this shortcut in your start menu.
If it doesn't work you can lower the axeleration of your sound device. For me this method worked. I made it 33 percent. You find this option by going to control panel of windows. It is in the sounds and audio devices under advance settings in the first tab.
I hope it helps.

Post 28 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Friday, 18-Jul-2008 20:32:25

So i am bringing this topick back again to ask if anyone created an account with klango and what are your usernames. Mine is nikosdemetriou

Post 29 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Saturday, 19-Jul-2008 15:43:43

Well, Louis (My husband) tried setting the accelleration, and everytime he opens Klango or anything that requires a lot of the sound card, it resets back to 100 percent. Nothing else gets choppy like that but Klango. Could it be something with Klango? BTW, his username on Klango is l_bryant2004. When I get my computer, I hope to get an account on Klango. I've seen moref its features, and it seems promising. Needs a lot of work.

Post 30 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Saturday, 19-Jul-2008 15:50:32

I use it and I'm getting used to it, though in my opinion, its just another zone. Well, I have my stream now apart of their catalogue, its in their waiting room, called the ice cold stream. I'm blindndangerous on their.

Post 31 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Saturday, 19-Jul-2008 17:25:41

I'm screaming_turtle on there, and hopefully by now the Ice Cold Stream is out of the waiting room. They only put it in there so the editors can approve what you add. I'll look for it and see where they decide to put it.

Post 32 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Saturday, 29-Nov-2008 5:08:20

I'm on Klango officially. I'm Sunshineandrain, just like here.

Post 33 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Sunday, 30-Nov-2008 15:35:39

hmmm I'm really considering getting this thing.

Post 34 by the icon (Zone BBS Addict) on Sunday, 30-Nov-2008 16:04:10

i used it once, i liked it, i think i'll try the updated verssion.

Post 35 by rat (star trek rules!) on Sunday, 30-Nov-2008 21:53:04

i'm there as well, username of ratking. so far, i really like it, usually have it in the system tray now for the private messages and such, plus it's hourly chime is rather nice.
